This program encourages students to address contemporary social/cultural circumstances in the light of an historically grounded sense of visual expression and material culture. As of Fall 2017, ART H (Art History) classes are renamed HADVC (History of Art, Design and Visual Culture).
The competencies reflect the diverse teaching and research areas of the faculty as well as their commitment to preparing undergraduates for future graduate study in art history. Working together, the History and Art Center opened its doors to the public August 19, 2006.

Almost half of the total credits required for the major are in studio coursework, and art history majors are strongly encouraged to use their studio electives to pursue a concentration in a studio discipline. The more obvious employment applications of a degree in Art History are as a college/university professor or as a museum curator. For example, someone might specialize in the 19th-century German or contemporary Chinese art history.
