For everyone who loves their art and their sports, the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, and the accompanying London 2012 Cultural Olympiad seem a match made in heaven. The camp is approximately two and a half hours from New York City, between Monticello and Binghamton. I know from experience that most fine arts teachers work as many hours as coaches, engage with parents as often, offer individual attention to as many students, and handle fundraising and program development just as much as sports coaches.
The World Forum on Sport and Culture, hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, is expected to bring together some 4,000 people in Kyoto and Tokyo, including top athletes, artists and business leaders, as well as sports ministers.
Scope partners with a number of community arts organizations to support budding and established artists to reach their creative potential. However, the football coach’s salary matched mine and the head band director’s salaries put together. Camp has long been a place where fun and fellowship abound, and where campers learn about themselves and the natural world.
Our Camp has a fully elective program, which allows campers to choose from traditional and not-so-traditional summer camp activities. While the books educate them with the theoretical knowledge, extra curriculum like sports, arts and music help them learn the real essence of life.
During that time, I was often at the school from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. As I walked to my car each night, typically the only people left on campus were custodial staff and my fine arts colleagues. Imagine sharing your dreams with kids just like you who love theater and the performing arts.
