It has become a mantra in education that No Child Left Behind, with its pressure to raise test scores, has reduced classroom time devoted to the arts (and science, social studies, and everything else besides reading and math). The team of teacher educators in the School of Arts Education and Movement are committed to the empowerment of the next generation of teachers as dynamic, ethical leaders in arts education and physical education who will make a significant and unique contribution to the holistic learning of children and young people.
Field experience – There are many progressive arts in education organizations and advocacy groups in the Cambridge and Boston area For-credit internships through the Field Experience Program are one cornerstone of the AIE experience, offering hands-on opportunities to work with local artists and youth in school and after-school settings.
He has presented on behalf of the United States Department of State International Visitors Leadership Program with Community Arts Center Directors from Dakar, Senegal, Africa, and with prominent arts executives from Baghdad, Iraq representing the Ministry of Culture, University of Baghdad, and the Iraqi National Symphony.
With his long-standing commitment to Arts/Health and his knowledge and connections across these ten districts, it will be good to support him embedding culture and the arts across all his strategic planning and delivery, with that cultural thread running through everything that Greater Manchester is about.
Such education not only strengthens cognitive development and the acquisition of life skills – innovative and creative thinking, critical reflection, communicational and inter-personal skills, etc – but also enhances social adaptability and cultural awareness for individuals, enabling them to build personal and collective identities as well as tolerance and acceptance, appreciation of others.
